It all starts here... well, no, it doesn't really

So i guess i should start my first 'foray' into blogging with some sort of town-cryier esque introduction.

My name is Rob. I like cats.

Well, today I had a double header of official-ness in which i handed in both my notice at my current job and accepting my new job in Mallorca. I'll be leaving Leamington Spa, or Royal Leamington Spa if you want to be ponsey, in about two months and heading over to Palma de Mallorca for a large slice of something exciting. I've only told a few close friends and work managers about my move, i donno why, guess I don't want to make too much of a spectacle of it just yet. I'll save the indoor fireworks and conical hats for later.

I don't speak any Spanish. This may or may not be a problem. The smart money is on it being a massive problem.

My biggest concerns at the moment are my previously mentioned language 'skillz', what to do with my flat/mortgage, what is to become of my relationship with my perfect Canadian girlfriend (who is moving to Vancouver), where the hell i'm going to be living and how I'm going to get my stuff over to Mallorca. Currently i'm in a state of shoulder shruggingness about everything. But i'm hoping two months is enough time to sort most of this stuff out.

I've been to Mallorca twice now (not including my one day interview). Once as a five year old, i remember the policemen had guns which I thought was immensely cool, and once as a 18 year old loser on a rock climbing holiday, i remember sleeping in a wardrobe one night. So all in all my memories are some what distorted, but what i remember, have read and saw on my interview was really nice. The city i'll be living/working in kind of reminded me of Barcelona, which is a good thing, if I ignore the memories of Barcelona when someone tried to mug us and my friend walked into a stop sign causing severe bleeding and a late night jaunt to a Spanish hospital.

At the time of writing this I haven't actually told my girlfriend yet, which i feel really bad about. I know she's not too happy about the idea of me moving FURTHER away, and neither am I. But she understands why I am doing it... and I have spent the last six months trying to find the right job in Canada.

Incidentally, incase you are unaware, I am a 'senior sound designer' for computer games. Which you may think is a highly pretentious title, and you'd be right, but it is actually a REAL job. I basically make the noises you hear in games. There are precious few vacancies and a great deal of competition, hence the lack of options open to me.

I'm going to write more later, my food and the 7 o'clock news is ready.

I promise this'll get better.
